This suspenseful Canadian novel centres on the mysterious death of Laura Curtis’s father. As Laura searches to find the truth, the narrative switches perspectives between Laura and three young Nigerians who are caught up in a world of poverty, Internet scams, and oil exploitation in their country. The novel, for grades 11-12, creates opportunities for discussion and critical thinking about poverty, resource extraction, sustainability, and global inequality.
