Abdul's Story

Thompkins-Bigelow, J.
Abdul is a natural storyteller but struggles with writing and putting his ideas on paper. When a special guest writer comes to his class one day, Abdul learns an important lesson from him: that all writers make mistakes. He is finally inspired to write, bringing his colourful and diverse neighbourhood to life with his words. Engaging illustrations highlight Abdul’s lively neighbourhood, celebrating its diverse people and cultures. In a Grade 3 or 4 classroom, teachers may use this book to segue into class discussions about making mistakes and how they can help us learn. Students may be inspired to write and draw about their experiences while being encouraged to learn about themselves, make connections to others, and be curious about learning.
