Across the Universe
Seventeen-year-old Amy and her parents are frozen cargo aboard the spaceship Godspeed and expect to wake on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. But, when her frozen slumber comes to an end too soon, she's thrust into a brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules and quickly realizes that her awakening was not a malfunction--one of the spaceship’s inhabitants tried to kill her. This science fiction novel for grades 8-12 could be a literature circle or independent novel, and could prompt discussion of what would happen if the Earth was no longer habitable, dystopian societies, and whether differences cause conflict for humanity.
