Ada's Violin: The Story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay

Hood, S.
Eleven-year-old Ada is one of many children who live a life of poverty in the slums of Paraguay and when Favio, a music teacher, offers the children a chance to play a musical instrument, Ada chooses the violin. But, without enough instruments for everyone, Favio and a friend find materials in the garbage dump to make instruments and create the Recycled Orchestra that changes the children’s lives. This inspirational story is a useful read-aloud to introduce that the actions of one person can have an impact on an entire community, to highlight differences/similarities between first and third world countries, and to introduce using recycled materials to create something new.
