Adrian Simcox Does NOT Have a Horse

Campbell, M.
Adrian delights in telling everyone at school that he has a horse, but Chloe is doubtful as she knows he lives in a small house with a small yard in a poor part of town. She becomes frustrated as Adrian continues to tell stories of his beautiful horse, and she blurts out that he is lying which makes Adrian very sad. Later that evening, her mother takes Chloe to Adrian’s house and after spending some time with Chloe realizes that Adrian has something of true value – a great imagination! Useful as a class read-aloud to explore and discuss its theme of empathy, and topics of kindness, perspective, acceptance, friendship, etc. Simple, poignant illustrations clearly express the emotions the characters experience.
