Up for Air

Morrison, L.
Thirteen-year-old Annabelle is a talented swimmer and is moved up to the high school team. She no longer feels like a child as her body changes, she develops a crush on Connor, a high school boy, and she questions friend and family relationships. She heads to Boston to reconnect with her estranged dad and maybe meet up with Connor but in Boston she must face the realities of her dad and Connor. This realistic coming-of-age story is suitable as a read-aloud or independent novel study, and to launch rich discussions of issues teens face, including friendship, family relationships, self-discovery, learning disabilities, blended families, alcohol abuse, life choices, and maturation.
