All Families are Special

Simon, N.
When their teacher announces that she is going to be a grandma, it prompts a class discussion about the students’ families and they learn that families are diverse and come in many different shapes and sizes. Students also discover that all families also have similarities as being a family means sharing both the happy and sad times and experiencing adversity and joy. A suitable read-aloud for K-3 to introduce students to a variety of family structures, e.g. single-parent families, same-sex parent families, adoptive/foster families, and to explore their own family structure. Full-page, watercolour illustrations depict the diversity of families and will engage young students.
