Amik Loves School

Vermette, K.
Amik loves school so much that he tells his grandfather all about it. His discovers that his grandfather attended a very different type of school – a residential school—so he invites him to attend school and tell his classmates what his school was like. Grandfather is pleased that Amik’s school values First Nations traditions and is a welcoming place. This gentle introduction to the residential school system for primary students can be used as a read-aloud to prompt discussions and writing activities.
