Angel Catbird
This Margaret Atwood graphic novel, suitable for grades 10-12, tells the story of Strig, a researcher who is working on a serum that will allow for genetic mutation to help end diseases. When he spills the serum on himself, it merges his DNA with that of a cat and an owl. The antagonist, his boss, secretly plans to use the serum to develop a rat army to take over the Earth. Useful in literature circles, the graphic novel is engaging and compelling, especially for reluctant readers, and could be used as a starting point for discussions on the medium of graphic novels and the topic of superheroes.
