Anger is a Gift

Sixteen-year-old Moss attends a California school that is crumbling and has no money except for a full-time police officer who performs random locker searches and when one goes too far, more police and metal detectors are brought in to the school which leads to more incidents and student response. As Moss tries to deal with the oppressive atmosphere at school and being seen as the leader of the student resistance, he also starts his first relationship. The novel deals with peaceful resistance and rebellion against unfair laws, and it also deals with systemic racism, poverty, police accountability, and authoritarianism in the U.S. Suitable as a classroom or literature circle novel for grades 10-12.
