From the Ashes

Thistle, J.
This Canadian memoir is the powerful story of Jesse Thistle’s path to resurgence, renewal, and hope. It that traces his often-difficult, traumatic life from three years old to the present, detailing an unstable upbringing, abandonment by his parents, and an abusive foster care situation that lead him to drug addiction, homelessness, and suicidal thoughts, and the eventual turning around of his life, which he credits to education, and understanding of his Indigenous roots. Useful as a literature circle choice for mature students in grades 11-12. Social considerations noted; sensitive content.
