Awâsis and the World-Famous Bannock

Hunt, D.
Young Awasis sets out through the forest to deliver her grandmother’s famous bannock. As she crosses a bridge over a stream, she accidentally drops the bannock over the side. Many different animals she meets in the forest help Awasis gather the ingredients for her grandmother’s recipe and she returns home to help her grandmother make a new batch. This engaging Canadian picture book, with its rich illustrations, can be used as a read-aloud to introduce First Peoples perspectives and storytelling, to learn about diverse communities, and to launch discussion about families and important events and foods in students’ families.
