BC Black History Awareness Society
Created by the BC Black History Society, this website commemorates the contributions and resilience of Black settlers in British Columbia. Students can access maps, images, and videos that highlight the authentic stories and voices of Black Canadians. Aligning with the BC curriculum in several intermediate and secondary-level courses, this resource may be used to build historical and cultural context for students. It may lend itself well as a supplementary document to provide creative and critical thinking opportunities. Teachers may invite students to gather, interpret, and analyze ideas using this website to further explore themes of racism, discrimination, resilience, resistance, and contributions of Black people in Canada.
