Bean Trees, The

This novel tells the story of Taylor Greer, a young woman who leaves her home in Kentucky to start a new life. She faces many challenges, including instant motherhood when she is asked to take care of a Cherokee child. She also tries to assist two Guatemalan refugees in their efforts to avoid deportation. With the help of new friends and her own determination, Taylor is able to overcome many obstacles.
