Bellevue Square

Redhill, M.
Jean Mason owns a bookshop and when a customer tells her that Jean has a doppelganger, Jean sets off to find her double. She heads to Bellevue Square where homeless people, drug users, thieves, and con artists live, some of whom seem to know her double, but when they start dying, Jean wonders about her double's agenda, and, when she wakes up in the hospital herself, Jean questions whether her doppelganger ever existed. This contemporary novel, with colourful, diverse characters, highlights the complexity of mental illness and identity, and, after teacher preview, could be used as an independent novel or a teacher-supported lit circle, or to explore memoir writing and perspective.
