Black Strathcona

A digital, interactive, and interdisciplinary resource, this website is designed to educate students about the history of Black people in the prominent Vancouver neighbourhood of Strathcona during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The resource uses storytelling, video, and technology, allowing students to access a story-based experience that highlights the lived experiences of individuals from the Black community during that period while also providing upper-intermediate and secondary students opportunities for real-life explorations of Strathcona. The resource lends itself well as an exploratory experience or a complete unit in the classroom. It may invite discussions, reflections, and opportunities for making inferences about contemporary issues for other groups within society.
