Boneless Mercies, The

Tucholke, A.G.
This fantasy novel, set in medieval Northern Europe, follows the story of four female protagonists who are mercy killers by trade. They set off on a quest to defeat a dangerous beast who is destroying a particular area and its people. The book may appeal to female readers, in particular, due to its strong, female characters and the alternate narrative of female agency and empowerment in traditionally male-dominated narratives. This novel lends itself well to studies of medieval literature and discussions about moral issues such as euthanasia.
