Book of Negroes, The

This novel tells the story of Aminata Diallo, a skilled midwife who is also able to read and write, and who survives kidnapping by slave traders at the age of 11. Aminata’s story spans six decades and three continents, dramatizing her tale of survival and migration. Born around 1745 in Mali, she is kidnapped as a child and sent across the Atlantic Ocean to South Carolina.
