Boy Dancer

This Canadian documentary follows four young boys, active in a variety of sports, as they learn hip hop, freestyle, rock, and fusion dance. Their enthusiasm and growing confidence, evident throughout the video, could inspire a love of dance in all children. The boys and instructors represent several cultural groups, and the video subtly challenges the gender roles that are usually associated with dance by showing the positive impact it has on the boys' lives and with the use of male role models for instructors. Suitable for grades 1 through 7, the video promotes active living through dance, and would be useful to supplement instruction in the areas of dance, musical styles, physical education, and health and career education.
