Boy in the Moon, The
This compelling memoir details the journey of the Brown family to deal with their son Walter, who was born with an extremely rare and debilitating disorder. From birth the Browns noticed something different about Walter, who couldn’t eat like other infants and missed developmental milestones. The author tries to find meaning in his son’s life while he simultaneously questions his ability and desire to cope, deals with deep guilt, and questions whether his son’s life is worth the cost to the healthcare system. Eventually Brown recognizes that it is his son who is both drowning and saving him. This honest story will encourage critical thinking and be suitable for lit circles for senior students.
