Boy Named Queen, A
Ten-year-old Evelyn lives an ordinary, dull, and routine life until Queen, a new boy, arrives at her school. Queen is very different from the other students and while they bully and tease him, he and Evelyn become friends and Evelyn realizes that being different or unique is okay and accepting yourself for who you are is even better. These strong, self-confident characters are relatable and good role models for grade 4-7 students. This short novel is suitable for novel study, literature circles, independent reading, or class read-aloud, and introduces issues of tolerance, friendship, bullying, conformity, personal identity, and awareness.
