Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The

Boyne, John
Bruno, a 9 year old boy, is forced to move to the grounds of Auschwitz when his father is appointed the camp commandant. Bruno has no understanding or frame of reference for what he sees outside his bedroom window. His naive narration is a counterpoint to the backdrop of the horror that is taking place inside the camp. To combat his loneliness, he unwittingly befriends an inmate who ironically shares his birthday. His friendship with Shmuel causes him to question his understanding of his world.
