Brave, The

Bird, J.
Collin struggles with OCD which makes him a target for bullies and a challenge for his dad who becomes very frustrated and sends Collin to live with his Ojibwe mother on a reservation in Montana. There he meets Orenda who must cope with a mysterious illness, and she helps Collin learn to be brave and cope with hardship. This engaging, relatable novel is suited for independent reading, a literature circle, and as a springboard for creative writing projects. It explores bullying, being an outsider, self-acceptance, courage, ability, disability, and whether there is such a thing as “normal.”
