Calvin

Ford, J., Ford, V.
A young child born female gathers the courage to tell their parents that they identify as a boy and wish to be called Calvin. During the family’s summer vacation at their grandparents’ home, the entire family shows Calvin love, acceptance, and support, socially introduces the child as Calvin, helps Calvin buy masculine clothes, and get a masculine hair style. Once home Calvin faces one more scary event – introducing themself as a boy to friends, peers, and teachers at school, who also accept and support Calvin. This award-winning picture book can launch discussions of identity and gender to K-5 students and encourage acceptance of people for who they are and how they want to be identified.
