Catching Spring
This novel presents a straightforward depiction of a young native boy's life on a reserve in the 1950s. Bobby, the protagonist, works for Dan at the marina and contributes his earnings to the family. A conflict arises when Bobby wants to participate in a fishing derby. The characters and plot are readily accessible, and the book comes to a positive and satisfying resolution. This novel could also be used with older ESL or special needs students.
