Danbi Leads the School Parade

Kim, A.
Young Danbi, a recent immigrant to the U.S. from Korea, is nervous about her first day at a new school. Not able to speak or write English, she tries her best to follow school routines and activities such as dancing, games, printing, and play, but she still feels very much an outsider. At lunch time Danbi has a great idea—she can connect to her classmates by sharing her lunch—and part of her culture—as it is very different from theirs...and it works! This simple, contemporary picture book, with bright, detailed visuals, is a useful read-aloud to facilitate discussions about immigration, cultural differences, diversity, acceptance, and learning about other perspectives.
