Dancing with Our Ancestors
Author Davidson recounts her memories of a potlatch she attended with her family prior to her brother’s death. She details the excitement of the preparation, set up, and events that took place at that potlatch, and discusses that potlatches were once banned and the impact that had on her family. This timely Canadian picture book has colourful, expressive illustrations that demonstrate the Haida style of art, and can teach students about Indigenous perspectives, traditions, and knowledge, and demonstrates how colonization had an impact on Indigenous communities.
