A Darkly Beating Heart

Smith, L.
Japanese-American teenager Reiko suffers a traumatic event at home and travels to Japan to stay with family but rather than finding healing she is overcome with hatred for those she feels hurt her, including her family, ex-girfriend, classmates, and co-workers, and plans to exact revenge on them all then kill herself. Before she can carry out her nefarious plans she visits a small village where she travels back in time and becomes Miyu, a Japanese girl who also is consumed with hate. This novel could be used in a literature circle or as a library book but the anger and violence in the book requires substantial teacher support and is recommended only for mature students.
