Dear Mr. Henshaw

Cleary, Beverly
This short, easy-to-read novel is presented as a collection of letters and journal entries. These are written from the perspective of Leigh Bott, a young boy who hopes to become an author. Over the course of the book, the reader is able to see how Leigh’s writing changes. His first letters to his favourite author, Mr. Henshaw, written when Leigh is in grade 2, are short and contain many grammatical errors. As the book develops, so do Leigh’s skills as a writer.
