When California’s water supply dries up most citizens are unprepared but fortunately for Alyssa and her brother Garrett their neighbours have been preparing, and their son Kelton joins their search for their parents. All around them society is spiraling downward as people become desperate, and to survive they must join with two others as they seek water and head to Kelton’s remote bunker. This timely dystopian novel is suited to literature circles on climate change, dystopia, survival, or adaptation, can be an independent novel selection or addition to a classroom or school library, and paired with current events topics of global droughts and wildfires.
