Dumb Creatures

Willis, Jeanne
Although this short novel is easy to read, the story is very compelling. Told in first-person by 11-year-old Tom, the book deals with the treatment of animals in captivity and with public perceptions of a boy who is mute. Tom can hear and think, but he does not speak.
