Dumplin'

Murphy, J.
Self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean lives in a small town with her former beauty queen mother, and spends most of her days with her best friend, chatting about life and listening to Dolly Parton. When Will’s good looking colleague shows her attention, her confidence is challenged as she can’t understand what he could find interesting about her. To regain her confidence, she enters a beauty pageant and in the end rediscovers herself. This grade 9-12 novel, useful for literature circles, challenges the idea of "traditional" beauty, and explores self-acceptance, body shaming, conformity, and friendship.
