The Eagle Feather

Locke, K.
When a child and an elder see an eagle flying, they discuss the lessons the eagle can teach them. And when the bird leaves the child with the gift of his feather, it becomes a symbol used to recount the story. The picture book’s simple narrative and engaging visuals allow primary students to reflect on an alternative worldview, perspective, and cultural teachings. This resource may be read with others as part of the Medicine Wheel series to infuse Indigenous perspectives and representation into the classroom. It is suitable as a whole-class read-aloud or in small groups.
