Emu

Saxby, C.
A non-fiction picture book depicting the upbringing of an emu from egg to young adult, “Emu” introduces to a young audience the unique familial relationships of an emu family, where it is the father who raises his babies on his own. Thought-provoking images and simple scientific facts help to highlight the roles and relationships of the emu family, also inviting primary-level readers to explore and discuss how families can be different. The book may also be used to support cross-curricular units where students compare and contrast the emu’s upbringing with others, allowing teachers to incorporate Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies components into the lessons.
