Escape from Aleppo
During the civil war in Aleppo, Syria, fourteen-year-old Nadia and her family plan to flee their home and escape to Turkey as refugees, but when Nadia hesitates, she is buried under rubble by an explosion and her family must leave without her. Nadia sets out to find her family and she meets a mysterious stranger who helps her on her journey to the Turkish border where she can reunite with them. This engaging and fast-paced novel for grades 6-8 provides factual details about the war and society at the time and can be a read-aloud to encourage discussion and reflection on the topics of war and the experiences of refugees and is also suitable for lit circles or a classroom library.
