Forget Me Not

Terry, E.
Every time seventh-grader Calli’s mother breaks up with another boyfriend they move and she must start another school, which is not easy as she has Tourette syndrome. When they move to Utah her mother tells her to hide the condition but when Calli’s mannerisms become noticeable she is teased and Calli must learn how to deal with her classmates, a new friend, her mother, and her Tourette syndrome. This autobiographical story promotes empathy and compassion, can help students develop broad understandings, and provides opportunities for critical and creative thinking. Suitable as a class read-aloud, for literature circles, or an independent read.
