Forgiveness

Sakamoto, M.
During WWII, the author’s maternal grandmother, Mitsue, and her family were wrenched from their homes and jobs and sent to a Japanese internment camp in Alberta. His paternal grandfather, Ralph, fought in the war, was captured, and imprisoned in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp. Their very different but parallel perspectives provide a glimpse of what his family endured during the war. This Canada Reads winner emphasizes the importance of forgiveness in healing and provides senior students with exposure to Japanese internment and the racism and intolerance in Canada’s history. Suitable for Social Studies classes as well as literature circles.
