The Forgotten Girl
Twelve-year-old African Americans Iris and Daniel are best friends who sneak out one night to play in the snow and find a hidden graveyard and the headstone of Avery Moore who was twelve when she died. Iris experiences odd events and Avery’s ghost haunts her. While the friends are dealing with their own issues of racism and death, they feel compelled to learn more and investigate the history of the area for a school project and discover their school has a history of racism and segregation and uncover the truth about the graveyard. Suitable for a read-aloud, individual novel study, or literature circle, the spooky novel deals with issues of injustice, racism, segregation, social history, family, and friendship.
