FreakBoy

Clark, K. E.
Brendan, star wrestler and in love with his girlfriend Vanessa, seems to have a pretty nice life but underneath he struggles with depression due to his parents' divorce and his mother's remarriage, and he sometimes wishes he were a girl and starts to question his sexuality. Vanessa abandoned her girlfriends to spend all her time with Brendan and when he withdraws she is left vulnerable and alone. When Brendan meets Angel, a 20-year-old transgender youth worker, she helps him with his gender identity struggles. The novel, told in free verse by these three narrators, deals with issues of gender identity, bullying, stereotyping, relationships with friends, and self-acceptance.
