Future of Us, The

Asher, J.; Makler, C.
This coming-of-age novel set in 1996 follows the journey of best friends and next-door neighbours Josh and Emma as they mysteriously gain access to Facebook, which has yet to be invented, and their profiles are from 15 years in the future. The characters face struggles that teens will identify with – understanding who they are and what they want, conflict with friends, relationships, family dynamics – as they realize that choices they make today will have an impact on the people they will become. Suitable as a class novel or for a literature circle for grades 9-12, the novel provides opportunities to explore identity, social media, and what the future might hold.
