Game Changer
Ash suffers a particularly tough tackle one day on the football field, and the hit transports him to an alternate reality, where he travels through various dimensions, experiencing the many lives that could have been or may be, depending on the choices made in life. An engaging story with a dynamic character, this novel may appeal to male athletes in particular, as the sports aspect and the main character may allow them to relate to the story. Suitable for students in Grade 9–11, “Game Changer” lends itself well as a classroom book or in a small-group novel study. The alternate realities the protagonist experiences may encourage students to reflect on how each world impacts Ash’s understanding of his own privilege and experience in this world. The dynamic character may inspire focused study in the classroom, and students may also be encouraged to compare this novel with another book written by the award-winning author, Neal Shusterman.
