Gathering, The
Alex is very nervous to be attending her first Mi’kmaw gathering but with the help of her cousin Matthew, elders, and gathering attendants she finds the courage and confidence to join in. She experiences many aspects of her culture, including dancing, beading, talking circles, and feasting, and feels grateful and joyful in understanding elements of her heritage. This picture book, with vividly coloured illustrations, introduces Mi’kmaw traditional activities and practices in a respectful and accessible manner, and demonstrates themes of respect, gratitude, patience, personal courage, and sacredness. Suitable as a read-aloud or for independent reading in grades 1-4.
