Gender Spectrum, The: What Educators Need to Know

This comprehensive handbook aimed at educators provides background knowledge about gender diversity, strategies designed to promote a respectful classroom environment for all students, and a series of age-appropriate lesson plans for K-12. The lesson plans cover gender role stereotyping, families, non sexist approaches to teaching fairy tales, ally building, the First Nations' perspectives on gender and more. Also outlined are the legal obligations of educational administrators and school districts, as well as details of how to create a gender inclusive school culture. The resource meets the Provincial Learning Objectives for Health and Career Education (K-9) and Planning 10, but can be used more broadly. Current school climates are addressed, and well-detailed strategies to create and support a respectful learning environment for all are provided. The handbook concludes with recommended resources to further the understanding of gender diversity.
