Ghost

Reynolds, J.
Seventh grade student Ghost learned at a young age how to run when he and his mother had to flee from his father who tried to shoot them, and since then he’s had a "scream" inside of him, which leads to all kinds of trouble. When he is discovered by the track coach and joins the team, Ghost must stay out of trouble, and he learns many life lessons as he trains to run towards his new life, instead of away from his past. This engaging novel for gr. 6-8 deals with poverty, bullying, domestic violence, and athletic competition, and would be suitable for read-aloud, literature circles, independent reading, and a classroom library.
