Ghost Boy
Martin was a happy, healthy boy until age 12 when a mysterious illness left him in a virtual coma and everyone around him gave up hope. When he was 16, an inexplicable miracle happened: he started to regain consciousness, although still paralyzed and unable to communicate, and slowly fought to regain control of his head and arms, use a computer to write, and operate a synthetic voice. His journey to be heard highlights persistence through adversity, self-reflection, self-acceptance, and resilience. It provides insight into people with communication challenges and the stigma and treatment of people with disabilities. A suitable secondary lit circle selection.
