Girlhood: Teens Around the World in Their Own Voices

Ahuja, M.
This resource offers a candid look into the lives of 30 girls around the world—aged 13 to 19—as they outline their daily lives, personal struggles, and dreams. The resource highlights many of the realities these girls face, including abuse, lack of access to education, poverty, natural disasters, teenage marriage and childbirth, dangerous conflicts, and mental health struggles. Students will be able to find connections with the girls and discover that despite the diversity of life differences, girls worldwide have plans and dreams for the future. The text provides an opportunity to explore and discuss these stark differences, cultural identity, personal awareness, and social responsibility.
