While Lilah learns more about ableism and inclusivity, the story allows readers to gain an understanding of the deaf community and the complexities and barriers these individuals face. This story may be engaging for middle-grade readers, and teachers may use the resource to invite students to research and reflect on how our society treats people with disabilities. It may also inspire discussions on ableism and how to advocate authentically for social justice issues.
