Golden Spruce, The

Vaillant, John
In 1997 Grant Hadwin, a BC timber scout, cut down the mythic Golden Spruce in the Queen Charlotte Islands as an act of protest against the logging industry. The book explores the consequences of this act for Hadwin, the Haida and the community. Hadwin disappeared mysteriously before his court date and the book also speculates on the circumstances of his disappearance. Histories of early logging in BC, the conflict between the Europeans and the Haida as well as tree biology are detailed.
