Good Kind of Trouble, A
Grade seven student Shay is happy with her life as she enters junior high school; she has the same two friends she grew up with and avoids trouble at all cost. But life at high school is different than she expects and Shay must face new friendships breaking up her group, understanding what it means to be a black woman, standing up for her belief in the BLM movement, and learning that sometimes rules are meant to be broken. This coming-of-age novel is suitable for read-aloud, literature circles, or independent reading, and deals with contemporary issues of racism, BLM, personal awareness and identity, cultural awareness, coming of age, and taking a stand for what you believe in.
