Guardians of Dawn

Jae-Jones, S.
This anime-style fantasy story allows readers to discover a world out of balance, where magicians are hunted down and destroyed. The main character, an orphan, keeps her magic a secret but eventually meets others like her, and together, they must battle a demon to restore peace. This escapist adventure novel may be of particular interest to students who enjoy anime and Asian perspectives, and in a secondary classroom, could facilitate a study of how imaginary worlds are created in stories. The story may lend itself well to literature circle groups focusing on the fantasy genre. As the novel is influenced by anime, teachers may encourage students to create a graphic novel version of the story and learn how to create manga art for it, learning how to use symbols in visual communication.
